The Comet Hale-Bopp early when it was way out, shortly after discovery.
A larger view of the comet when it first appeared.
By Alan Fitzsimmons and Martin Cartwright (Queen's University of Belfast). A jpeg image of Hale-Bopp obtained on 25th August using the 1m Jacobus Kapteyn Telescope on La Palma using the cassegrain CCD camera plus R-band filter. The image is centered on the nucleus and is 19 arcsec by 19 arcsec. The spiral jet of material appears to extend over 5 arcsec from the nucleus, or over 25,000 km at the distance of the comet. This image may be freely used providing credit is given Alan Fitzsimmons & Martin Cartwright/Queen's University of Belfast.
This was taken March 24th in Willington CT by Martin J Bernier with a 35mm camera through a 28-85mm zoom lens. This was the fifth shot in a series of seven. The object was noticed after the pictures came back from the developers. This clip is a 1200dpi digital enlargement of the photo. The negatives have been secured. Submitted by Ken Berine
Art Bell and Whitley Strieber simultaneously release these two images received from Courtney Brown, who received them from an astronomer, one marked up and one not, which identifies the Hale-Mary object nestled deep in the comet's corona, immediately behind it. A complete story by Whitley Strieber is available at The Communion Homepage.
The above images are probably doctored images from this image from the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy web site. So I wouldn't lose any sleep over waiting for the astronomer to come forward. Here is a side by side comparison of the two images with a letter from David Tholen, the original imager. On April 20, 1996 H. Fukushima and N. Yamamoto of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan photographed the Hale-Bopp Comet. They used the observatory's 50cm Reflector and a CDD Camera. The photograph shows an anomalous feature on the edge of an "object" next to the "Comet". The photograph shows a funnel eminating from the top of the object and gradually dissipating into space. Whitley,
Excuse the size of this file, but THIS seals it for me. I've put all the images with the object together in a chart, dated, source named, etc... THIS IS A DEFINATE, to me. I've had SOME percentage of doubt about this... but not now. I think once others see this, it will be glaringly obvious. This isn't a "blooming" star.... can't be.
There is a six month gap between the first anomaly (Japanese Nat.Obsrv) and that "origin unknown"/Possible HST photo showing the object; then one month later, Chucks. And, I've lined them up, Chucks (Nov. 14), JNO #1 (Nov.15) and JNO #2 (Nov.16). All have this object, all have ONE HORIZONTAL SPIRE (not a cross spire, as is common) and all are close to the object. The run of images shows that it appears in Chuck's on the 14th, vanishes entirely on the 15th and reappears on the 16!
Also, why aren't equally or near-equally brilliant stars also "blooming" like this? No way. :)
I'm going to put this up at ENIGMA, but you might want to send this to Art Bell also. I assume you have a way to get his attention through all that Lizard-sex-from-other-planets email he gets :)
Wow... what a night :) I have this funny feeling tho that when HB comes back from around the sun in the spring, it will break up or something... or be a dud. But, THIS has at least got people looking out there and questioning things. Maybe that's the importance.

Tim Puckett Photos
Subject: New Hale Bopp Photo
To: artbell@aol.com
Art,
These are a couple of photo's taken by Tim Puckett. Notice that the first photo has the dual eyes again. Puckett attributes this to a 9th magnitude star, but it is hard for me to believe that a 9th magnitude star can be made as bright as a 4 to 5 magnitude comet. I also do not understand why a lesser magnitude star can be seen at all near a 4 to 5 magnitude comet.
The reason that I have included two photos is that you will notice that the second one is a longer exposure (evidenced by it being brighter). If you take the first photo, and increase the brightness setting on your jpg viewer, you will notice that the photo with the eyes will soon look identical to photo #2.
The point that I am making is that you would never have seen this supposed 9th magnitude star if the exposure on the first photograph had been longer. The "star" is hidden in the glare of the comet. In the same way, the companion can also be lost in this same glare. In conclusion, if more photos were taken the way that the first photo was, or if Halebopp was observed with the same filters that were used in that photo, perhaps the companion could be seen.

Been following the controversy regarding Hale Bopp for quite some time now and regardless of any problems with the "SLO" or any of the other theories about HB - there *is* something strange going on.
Look at the attached image taken by a japanese observatory and note the large circular object in the lower right quadrant of the picture. That object does not exhibit the smearing of the stars in the background of the picture. And that smearing or streaking effect is caused by the telescope tracking the comet during a time exposure.
Therefore, that object is either keeping pace with Hale Bopp or something far stranger is happening... Something in space is defying the laws of celestial mechanics.
The file HB_1116.JPG is the main image showing the starfield, comet and object and OBJ-1.JPG is an extreme magnification of the object itself. It is remotely possible that this "object" is an extremely bright star which washed out on the film, but considering the similar size and apparent distance from HB of other observations of this object - I dont think so.
Hope this is useful to you. I am still digging and will send you more as I find it and you are interested.
Cheers,

Dear All,
On Saturday night, Dec. 7th, a small group of us from MUFON AZ went out to our desert skywatch location to look for come HB. We spotted first with binoculars a little after sunset. We had to wait for the sky to darken in the west. It was low in the west, maybe 15 deg. above the horizon and just a little north of the Milky Way. We had three telesopes. Our best telescope was the Celestron C-8. The consensus of opinion is that HB has a companion. Now Alan Hale said to go out and look for ourselves. We did, but it still looks like there is a second bright object near HB! We switched to a 187X power eyepiece to look at it one last time before it descended into western haze.
AS a footnote, we also enjoyed looking at the rings of Saturn, the ring nebula in Lyra - this is just south of the bright star Vega, and the galaxy in Andromeda.
Sincerely,
Bill Hamilton
Transcript of a phone call by Joe Le’Sesne sent to Art of a conversation Joe had with an astronomer he knows at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.
[Joe:] Hi, this is Joe Le'Sesne, I'm not sure if you remember me but we met this past summer at the Astrobiology Workshop in California. We talked briefly about planet formation near close binaries?
[Astronomer] Yes, I remember speaking with you. You asked about figure-eight orbits right?
[Joe:] Yes that was me. Listen, I have a question, several friends have been asking me about an anomalous object near the Hale-Bopp comet which supposedly is being observed by alot professional astronomers. I said to them that while I don't know anything about it, I do know some who might.
[Astronomer] Anomalous object? Hale-Bopp? You know, this is out of my area of expertise but I do remember hearing something about this from (intentionally deleted), their team was looking into it, this was several weeks ago.
[Joe:] Did they say anything specifically about it in terms of size or what its position is in relation to Hale-Bopp?
[Astronomer] No, infact that's what brought it up. We were talking about precise astrometry and they let on that they were taking astrometric observations on an anomaly near the Hale-Bopp comet, which suprised me but I forgot about it until this week. We've been swamped with calls for information.
[Joe:] Ok, would you think they would be willing to go on record with this?
[Astronomer] I don't see why not, perhaps they will submit a paper when they have reduced their data.

Subject: Hale-Bopp anomalies
Hello Joe,
Regarding your inquiry into anomalies in the vicinity of Comet 1995/01 (Hale-Bopp), we have received several inquiries of similar nature. Most of this seems due to a CCD photo of an over-exposed star taken by an amateur astronomer. While we have registered several anomalies with respect to comet Hale-Bopp, we have seen nothing that would support some of the outlandish claims that have been made regarding them. Be advised that we are still reducing data on the said anomalies so they could very well turn out to be error. Since I have been forthcoming with your request I hope you honor your promise of anonymity as we do not want to be bombarded with calls from the media and fanatics.
Thank you, Dr. *********** - Keck Observatory.

Subject: Hale-Bopp anomalies
Hello Mr. LeSesne,
Concerning your question about observed anomalies in the same field of view of C/1995-01 (Hale-Bopp) be advised that while I have no firsthand observations or data I have seen data from two teams involved in both astrometry as well as radial-velocity. The anomalie apparently does exist however I cannot say how large or how close to the comet it actually is. The data I saw was preliminary and the team, while excited about their discovery, is following careful procedure in reducing their data. Some tidbits must have leaked out already, no doubt this is what has caused the stir on "The Art Bell Show". Sorry that's all I can tell you about it. Thanks for honoring my request.
A few faxes received by Art Bell on December 2, 1996 regarding Hale-Bopp:
I had a meeting with Len Stringfield in late January or early February of 1992. He had received an onslot of calls stating that the Bush administration was requesting a 30% increase in SDI (Space Defence Initiative). This seems odd since the Soviet Union had fallen the past year. The reason he said was the government beleived that an object may be coming into our solar system and in fact an unknown object had been sighted in the southern hemisphere.
Here is the kicker, from his sources which Len had many, the object was changing shape and switching from a circle then a square and finally to a triangle, the scientists were baffled. His parting words to me was to follow the news services to see if this was going to be reported.
About six weeks after returning to my home in Scottsdale, CNN carried a similar story and then nothing more was heard until Mr. Hale and Mr. Bopp made their discovery. I don't want to remove credit for the discovery from them but I thought this may be one of the missing parts of the puzzle.
Yours truly,
Richard F. Motzer

As per the ongoing situation, I called the Lick Observatory (atop Mt. Hamilton down near San Jose) and spoke to one of the people in charge, who returned my call after an afternoon of repeatedly calling and leaving my number. She (the woman's name was Wendy) informed me that the 'phone lines were literally exploding with requests for info or possible explanations for the anomalous photos & alleged radio signals, as well as that she is an avid listener to Coast-to Coast as of two weeks ago when the first photos broke.
When asked to confirm or deny the existence of the "companion", she stated that, yes, she had received confirmation of such existence from others within the Observatory staff (as well as scientists at other astronomical facilities in the U.S., which she declined to name just yet), but she added that the discovery is so new and so unprecedentally strange that any hypothesis as to the origins of purpose of the object is purely speculative at this time.
She also seemed to want to confirm the report of organized, seemingly intelligent radio signals emanating from the anomaly, but reserved comment, not wanting to wholeheartedly confirm or deny until she saw raw data for herself... she stated that no signals had been recorded by Lick, but also that the Observatory is not really equiped to be a S.E.T.I. station anyway.

HUBBLE SEES MATERIAL EJECTED FROM COMET HALE-BOPP
These NASA Hubble Space Telescope pictures of comet Hale-Bopp show a remarkable "pinwheel" pattern and a blob of free-flying debris near the nucleus. The bright clump of light along the spiral (above the nucleus, which is near the center of the frame) may be a piece of the comet's icy crust that was ejected into space by a combination of ice evaporation and the comet's rotation, and which then disintegrated into a bright cloud of particles.
Although the "blob" is about 3.5 times fainter than the brightest portion at the nucleus, the lump appears brighter because it covers a larger area. The debris follows a spiral pattern outward because the solid nucleus is rotating like a lawn sprinkler, completing a single rotation about once per week.
Ground-based observations conducted over the past two months have documented at least two separate episodes of jet and pinwheel formation and fading. By coincidence, the first Hubble images of Hale-Bopp, taken on September 26, 1995, immediately followed one of these outbursts and allow researchers to examine it at unprecedented detail. For the first time they see a clear separation between the nucleus and some of the debris being shed. By putting together information from the Hubble images and those taken during the recent outburst using the 82 cm telescope of the Teide Observatory (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain), astronomers find that the debris is moving away from the nucleus at a speed (projected on the sky) of about 68 miles per hour (109 kilometers per hour).
The Hubble observations will be used to determine if Hale-Bopp is really a giant comet or rather a more moderate-sized object whose current activity is driven by outgassing from a very volatile ice which will "burn out" over the next year. Comet Hale-Bopp was discovered on July 23, 1995 by amateur astronomers Alan Hale and Thomas Bopp. Though this comet is still well outside the orbit of Jupiter (almost 600 million miles, or one billion kilometers from Earth) it looks surprisingly bright, fueling predictions that it could become the brightest comet of the century in early 1997.
The full-field picture on the left, taken with the Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 (in WF mode), shows the comet against a stellar backdrop in the constellation Sagittarius. The stars are streaked due to a combination of Hubble's orbital motion and its tracking of the nucleus, which is now falling toward the Sun at 33,800 miles per hour (54,000 km/hr). In the close-up picture on the right, the stars have been subtracted through image processing. Each picture element is nearly 300 miles (480 km) across at the comet's distance. In this false color scale the faintest regions are black, the brightest regions are white, and intermediate intensities are represented by different levels of red.
Even more detailed Hubble images will be taken with the Planetary Camera in late October to follow the further evolution of the spiral, look for more outbursts, place limits on the size of the nucleus, and use spectroscopy to study the enigmatic comet's chemical composition.

Dear Mr. Bell,
I have listened to your program off and on for around two years now, whenever I get "down-time". I have some disturbing information and I fell that your program would be the perfect vehicle with which to distribute what I have.
I have been under the employ of the Vatican for over five years. I have done what could best be described as counter-intelligence work, for the church. I am a man of God and please believe me when I tell you that the information I have is genuine, and very serious.
Without going into too much detail about my former employers, I will briefly tell you that I have had a Top Level security clearance in the Vatican for quite some time. Most of the work I have done regrettably falls into the realm of "black-ops", and I will not go into detail about that now.
Around six months ago, I was working at a data terminal in a highly restricted area following a case that I had just completed, when I stumbled onto something that nearly made my heart stop. Please pay attention here, this is where it gets strange.
I uncovered a heavily encrypted sub-system that was suprisingly well hidden. I found that it was only accessible through the terminal I was at, and one other terminal.(I must point out that the area I was in was not an area that I routinely used.) After two minute of trying to getinto the system, the whole lab shut itself down and I was booted off the terminal. Not wanting to raise any eyebrows, I decided to leave and come back later that night. The strange thing was, when I came back, there were ARMED guards standing sentry outside of the lab. I must say that it is not unusual to see guards roaming the Vatican, but it is very unusual for them to stand sentry at a lab, much less while armed.
Over the next month, I managed to slip in unnoticed only once. And after I had found what I came for, I understood the security.
It took me a good deal of time to break into the system, and when I did, I wished I hadn't. When I entered the system, I came across a file titled "WORMWOOD?".(Yes, with a question mark.) Thinking it to be a text file, I brought up the file with the intent of corying so I could read it later. What happened next was truly remarkable. The file sort of "deteriorated" into a series of command lines that lasted approximately two minutes. Once it was done running, there it was.
I had found a direct link-up to the Hubble space telescope. Not only that, but it was pointed directly at the comet Hale-Bopp. The program was running some kind of analysis. Taking directional notes, projecting path of travel, etc. After realizing what I had discovered, I started searching and came across an e-mail data trail that led directly to the office of the Pope himself. What was discussed, I cannot know.
Over the next two weeks, I began to uncover evidence that the Vatican is very aware of the existence of the companion, and is VERY worried about it. I began to copy files and pictures that were present at the terminal, when I found a report from the United Nations to the Vatican, as well as a report from NASA regarding their concerns.
It is very obvious to me that a great many people and entities know of the companion and are doing their best to keep quiet. VERY quiet. As the next part of my story illustrates.
I had found another file that I wanted to look at, but it was independently encrypted. At the time that I discovered it, I had already been online at the terminal for some time, so I decided to copy the file encrypted, and decode it at my leisure. As I was leaving the lab, I was approached by two of the Pope's top aides and was asked to meet them later in the evening. I didn't feel comfortable about the situation, so I agreed and told them that I needed to shower, and would join them later. I haven't been back to the Vatican since.
I found out about a week later through some old friends and contacts that a contract had bee placed on my life. Two days later my mother and father were killed in a car crash in France. Three days after that, my brother and sister were killed when their single engine plane went down on the East coast of the U.S. I've been on the run for a very long time now, and am still trying to decode the file that I have in my possession. Approximately ten copies have been distributed to friends in the field in the event that I should diappear. I do not fear for my life, as I am very adept at not being found, however I believe that the world needs to know of the information that I have. I would be willing to share all that I have wuth you Mr. Bell. But you need to understand that your life could be in danger if you were to go public with what I give you. I appologize fpr being so vague, but I feel it neccessary at this point in time.
If you would like the information, say so over the air when you get this letter. If I am not listening, someone will get the information to me, as there is no safe way for you to contact me at this point in time. I await your response.

Mr. Bell,
To preface this letter if you intend on reading it to your listeners, I will tell you that the gentleman who was previously forwarding my messages, is unfortunately no longer with us. He was killed very violently while on a vacation in Southern California. He was found by police in his hotel room tied up, with gun shot wounds to his head and spine. His mother was sent pictures of him just before he was shot. These photos were sent with a warning. I don't think I need to elaborate any further on that. I mourn his loss deeply, and I pray that yet another death will not be in vain. It adds a new seriousness to the passage I told you to read regarding HOPE.
I appologize for having been gone for so long. I was unavoidably detoured for a number of weeks. I am fine. I have been recovering from a gunshot wound that I received around Christmas time. The bullet, near as I can tell was not meant to kill me, but to cripple me. The bullet missed my spinal chord by approximately 4 centimeters. I am still having difficulties, but I am getting better every day.
I want you and all of your listeners to know that I have made arangements for you to receive some information. I have unlocked the disc I was working on and I am, to say the least, very frightened.
Without going into too much detail, the disc contained a good deal of information concerning what your remote viewer friend had to say. The Vatican too has a staff of astral operatives, and operatives trained in remote viewing. They have for some time now, known of the virus that he spoke of, and according to them, it is very real.
I will also be sending you detailed information of two projects that the Vatican is involved with currently.
1) They have worked to successfully stop a program called Space Guard. This program was headed by a man in Australia until it was shut down. It's main purpose was to track all known comets, and determine any possible "Earth Colliders". The programs funding was cut altogether by NASA, which was only to the amount of 1 million dollars anyway, by the Vatican. And I will go into detail in the information you will be receiving.
2) I have learned of a vast number of training facilities accross the globe, but mostly in the U.S., that are training what I can only refer to as the Vatican Gaurd. These soldiers are being trained for what the Vatican feels is an impending holy war. These soldiers are being trained in biologics, nuclear fallout conditions, and the use of Astral Combat.
This is far more reaching than I had ever imagined Mr. Bell. I do hope that you mull over the information you will be getting very seriously. As it is the truth. I appologize for the anonymity with regards to this e-mail, but under the circumstances, I do not wish to endanger anyone else. I will from now on be sending you all information personally. Any other address other than the one you just received, is not from me, and should be treated as such. I will be in contact soon. God be with us all.
